PAUL MCCARTNEY: BEATLES WERE BETTER THAN THE ROLLING STONES

Paul McCartney loves the Rolling Stones, but says his band with John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Star was better.

The humble-brag happened Tuesday during a telephone interview with Howard Stern on SiriusXm. Stern offered that he thought the Beatles were better than their bad boy counterparts and McCartney, calling from his home in Sussex, England, didn’t disagree.

“You know you’re going to persuade me to agree with that one,” Paul said.

Paul said he’s a huge Stones fan, but believes the Beatles were more innovative and drew from a wider range of influences.

“The Stones are a fantastic group, I go and see them every time they come out. they’re a great, great band,” Paul said. “I love them.”

Stern noted that members of the Rolling Stones have attempted solo careers that didn’t pan out. All four Beatles enjoyed a certain degree of success on their own after the Beatles broke up around 1969.

McCartney said there were notable differences between the bands and expressed respect for singer Mick Jagger’s showmanship as a frontman. He also said Stones guitarist Keith Richards once expressed envy of the Beatles.

“Keith once said to me, ‘You’re lucky, man, you have four singers in your band. We only have one,’” he said.

According to Paul, he and his only living bandmate, Starr, are friends with the members of the Rolling Stones and the bands share great respect for one another’s extensive song catalogs.

“But I’m with you, the Beatles were better,” Paul said.
